Natural Remedy Information

Normal treatments for migraine headaches include medicine that can be prescribed by your doctor or other health professional. These generally include triptans and ergotamines. Over the counter remedies can also be purchased and the ones that are best used to fight the pain caused by migraine headaches are ibuprofen and aspirin. There are some natural methods you could look into and this can be just as effective, if not more effective than those you can buy from a pharmacy. Most over the counter remedies will only offer temporary pain relief and the prescription drugs that you may be given could have adverse side effects that could work out worse than the migraine headaches themselves.

There are some more herbal remedies that have been linked to relieving the pain that accompanies migraine headaches and one of the most popular is one called Ginkgo Biloba. Usually renowned for its properties for increasing blood circulation and enhancing memory, French trials suggest that using small doses of this on a daily basis can actually help to manage migraine headaches.

Feverfew, whose scientific name is Tanacetum Parthenium, has also been linked to preventing and/or reducing the effects of migraine headaches when used with Jamaican Dogwood. In the case of the Jamaican Dogwood, it can be used to alleviate symptoms such as insomnia that can occur when migraine headaches attack.

Ginger has been known for many years for its beneficial properties. It can be used when the migraine headaches that you are experiencing are happening at the front of the head, around the eye area. The reported dose to reap these benefits is five to six hundred mg of ginger powder added to a glass of water and repeatedly drank every four hours for four days. Ginger has also been used for centuries to calm upset stomachs. This is useful when your migraine is accompanied by nausea.

Some herbal remedies can provide welcome relief from migraine headaches when they are caused by fatigue. Among these herbs you will find that Damiana, Ginseng, Sarsaparilla and Kola are the most popular and can help to perk up the body and mind and generally make you feel better. When taken on a daily basis in small doses, these herbal remedies can help to prevent migraine headaches as well as alleviate the pain.

Black horehound is a herb that tends to work better when used alongside other herbs such as meadowsweet or chamomile and can help to massively reduce the effects of vomiting and nausea that migraine headaches so often bring along with them.

All in all, there are plenty of herbal and natural remedies in which you can use to alleviate the pain of migraine headaches and also to prevent them. As long as you do your research and speak to your doctor before you try to change anything about the treatment that you are receiving for your migraine headaches, you will find that you should have no problems with these complimentary therapies and because they are natural, there will not be much in the way of adverse side effects that have been associated with synthetic and prescription treatments.
